From per-device AI to memberships
In summer 2026 Birdfy stopped selling AI per camera and moved to account memberships. For one feeder the yearly price went up; for two it went down.

Lifetime editions
“AI Lifetime Free” versus “AI by Subscription”
Birdfy sells most feeders in two editions. The hardware is the same; the lifetime edition includes AI bird recognition for the life of the device. Examples from the US store on 30 September 2026: Birdfy Feeder $109.99 or $129.99, Feeder Metal 2 4K $229.99 or $259.99.
Labels differ between stores: the Feeder 2 Pro is “AI by Subscription” in the US spec table but sold as “AI Lifetime Free” in the UK store. Check the variant name before you pay. Every model and its editions are in our Birdfy review.

How much is the Birdfy subscription?
Membership Plus costs $79.99 a year for up to two feeders, Membership Pro $149.99 a year for up to ten. The free tier costs nothing and includes 10 AI identifications a day.
Does Birdfy require a subscription?
No. Without a plan the camera still records, keeps Moment videos 30 days and identifies 10 birds a day. Unlimited AI, Bird Data and longer clips need Plus or Pro – unless you buy a lifetime-AI edition.
What happened to Birdfy's old AI subscription?
Until mid-2026 Birdfy sold AI per device: $4.99 a month, $49 a year or $69.99 for life. It was replaced by account memberships; existing subscriptions can renew until cancelled and Lifetime AI stays valid.
Is a Birdfy lifetime AI edition worth it?
Usually yes: it costs about $20–30 more once, while Plus costs $79.99 every year. After the first year the lifetime edition is ahead.
How many feeders does Birdfy Plus cover?
Two. Pro covers up to ten, and each further device costs $1.99 a month.
Is there a free trial?
