Get it right
Five tips before you buy
- Check the Wi-Fi first. Most camera feeders need 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi reaching the garden; ask discreetly or pick a model with dual-band Wi-Fi.
- Think about the plan. Many cameras need a yearly plan for automatic bird ID. Choose a lifetime-AI edition or add a year of membership, so the gift doesn't come with a bill.
- Match the birds. Hummingbird cameras only make sense where hummingbirds come – see the map. For everyone else, a seed camera feeder.
- Order early. Birdfy warns that Black Friday and Christmas can delay shipping (Birdfy).
- UK recipients: Bird Buddy's store does not ship to the UK (Amazon.co.uk imports the Birdbuddy 2); Birdfy sells gift editions and gift cards in its UK store.
Questions
Gifts for bird lovers: questions
What is a good gift for a bird lover?
A bird feeder camera is the stand-out gift; under $100, a heated bird bath, a window feeder or a nest box are just as welcome – especially matched to the birds that visit their garden.
Which bird feeder camera makes the best gift?
One that needs no yearly plan – such as a lifetime-AI edition – and works with the recipient's Wi-Fi. See the options above.
Do bird feeder cameras need a subscription?
Most work without one, but automatic bird ID usually needs a plan. Lifetime-AI editions and the COOLFLY Aura include it.
