Month the hummingbirds arrive
Each state shows the month its main hummingbird species is first reported regularly. In the East that is the ruby-throated hummingbird, which winters in Central America; in the West it is Anna's, black-chinned, broad-tailed or rufous.

When do hummingbirds arrive?
In the Gulf states the first ruby-throated hummingbirds are reported in March; in the northern states and New England they arrive in April or May. The map shows the month for every state.
Where do hummingbirds stay all year?
Anna's hummingbirds stay all year along the West Coast and in the desert Southwest; parts of the Gulf Coast see hummingbirds in every month. From our data: Arizona, California, Florida, Nevada, Oregon, Washington.
Which states have no regular hummingbirds?
Hawaii, North Dakota, South Dakota show too few hummingbird sightings for a reliable season.
