Birdfy needs 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi

  • Most current Birdfy products work on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only; 2.4 GHz is described as more stable with wider coverage outdoors and through walls.
  • Since 2026 some newer products, e.g. Birdfy Feeder Metal 2 4K, support both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.
  • If the home network is 5 GHz only, the camera may not connect.
  • How to check the band: separate SSIDs (e.g. XXXX_2.4G / XXXX_5G); router settings (e.g. 192.168.1.1 / 192.168.0.1); Android Wi-Fi details; iPhone AirPort Utility Wi-Fi Scanner; channels 1-13 = 2.4 GHz, 36+ = 5 GHz.

Birdfy won't connect to Wi-Fi after scanning the QR code

  1. Confirm the network is 2.4 GHz (see above).
  2. Router security: Birdfy cameras do not support WPA3-only; set WPA2 or WPA/WPA2 mixed mode in the router's wireless settings.
  3. Re-check the Wi-Fi password (case-sensitive, spaces, special characters).
  4. Weak signal: move the camera closer to the router, restart the router, wait 1-2 minutes, restart pairing in the app.
  5. Router compatibility test: create a 2.4 GHz hotspot on phone A (iPhone: 'Maximize Compatibility'), pair via the Birdfy app on phone B; if that works, create a guest network on the router and connect the camera to it.

Birdfy camera can't scan the QR code

  1. Power on: short press shows blue light; if none, hold power 3 s.
  2. Enter Wi-Fi configuration mode: double-press power button; blue light flashes.
  3. Remove protective film from lens; clean lens with a soft dry cloth.
  4. Hold phone about 5-15 cm (2-6 in) from the lens and adjust slowly; moderate light, raise screen brightness.

“Failed to connect to server”

  1. Likely router compatibility / network configuration, not signal.
  2. Test with another phone's mobile hotspot; if it works, create a guest network on the router and connect the camera to it.

Birdfy camera offline

  1. Check battery level; fully charge if low.
  2. Confirm home Wi-Fi works (other devices online); reconnect the camera via the app if needed.
  3. Adjust orientation: walls, distance and especially metal weaken signal; Birdfy Feeder Metal/Espresso: face the camera toward the router.
  4. Reboot: disconnect solar panel/charger, press reboot hole with ejector pin (some models: reboot button 1 s), then hold power 3 s.
  5. If it persists: support@birdfy.com.

Live feed not loading

  1. Close and reopen the Birdfy app; reboot the camera (ejector pin, then power 3 s); make sure it is not shutting down on low battery.
  2. Check other devices on the same Wi-Fi; restart router if needed.
  3. Weak signal at camera: move closer to router, Wi-Fi extender/booster, or another network/hotspot.
  4. Phone side: internet access, app network permissions, pull-to-refresh device list, switch Wi-Fi/mobile data, try another phone.
  5. Router compatibility test via hotspot; guest network if hotspot works.

Moment videos not loading (“failed to load moments”)

  1. Restart both the camera and the Wi-Fi router.
  2. Move the camera closer to the router, then try loading again.
  3. Hotspot test; if the camera works via hotspot, create a guest network on the router.
  4. If it persists: support@birdfy.com.

No recordings or notifications

  1. App > Settings > Moment Settings: reduce Cooldown Time if events are missed (e.g. 5 min cooldown ignores motion for 5 min).
  2. Sensitivity slider 0-100 % or Low/Medium/High; raise if motion is missed.
  3. Notification: do not select 'Never'; remove 'Do Not Disturb' filters.
  4. Phone: allow Birdfy notifications (iOS Settings > Notifications > Birdfy; Android Settings > Apps > Birdfy > Notifications); turn off Low Power Mode / Battery Saver and battery optimisation for the app.
  5. Birds-only alerts: needs AI Bird Recognition active; Notification > Notification Frequency > 'Birds & Squirrels'; add 'squirrel' to Do Not Disturb to mute squirrels.

Too many empty videos

  • Causes: rapid ambient temperature changes, sudden strong light (sun, reflections, headlights), strong airflow (wind, fans, AC).
  • Avoid AC vents, fans, ventilation openings, heaters; Birdfy recommends a shaded, stable spot away from direct sun and strong airflow.

Videos cut short

  1. Most common cause: slow or unstable upload.
  2. Lower clarity to 50 % or below / SD resolution (Device Settings > Moment Settings > Clarity or More Settings > Video Resolution).
  3. Move the camera closer to the router; consider a faster internet plan.

Error code -2

  1. Settings cannot be changed in Sleep Mode: Device Settings > More Settings > Sleep Mode > toggle off.

Birdfy not charging

  1. Ambient temperature while charging must be 0-40 °C (32-104 °F).
  2. Check the status light when plugged in; if the device charges but the app does not show it, the device may be offline.
  3. Reboot (ejector pin / reboot button 1 s), then charge again.
  4. Adapter spec depends on model: 5V/1A, 5V/1.5A or 5V/2A (see user manual).
  5. Try another cable/adapter; check the port is clean and undamaged.
  6. Full charge takes 5.5 or 10 hours depending on model.

Solar panel not charging or not reaching 100%

  1. Direct sunlight needed; overcast conditions may not generate enough voltage.
  2. Temperature 0-40 °C (32-104 °F).
  3. Check status light when connected to the panel; test indoors with a charger - if the charger works the panel may be faulty (contact support for replacement).
  4. Panels are designed to maintain the battery, not to charge from 0 to 100 %; fully charge with a charger first.
  5. With more than 200 Moment videos per day and solar only, the panel may not keep the battery level up.
  6. On some models the red light turns off when full; check for the bolt icon in the app. Only one camera model shows a green light when full.

Which solar panel size

  • 3 W for a single camera; 5 W charges 60 % faster than 3 W; 8 W delivers 1.6x the power of 5 W.
  • 5 W and 8 W include a Y-branch connector to charge two cameras (e.g. Feeder 2 Duo); 5 W or 8 W recommended for dual-camera models.
  • Chew-proof cable has a metal-wrapped layer for areas with squirrels/raccoons.

Questions

Birdfy problems: questions

Why won't my Birdfy connect to Wi-Fi?

Most Birdfy cameras need a 2.4 GHz network with WPA2 (not WPA3-only). Check the band, the password and the signal at the feeder; if it still fails, test with a phone hotspot and use a guest network.

How do I reset a Birdfy camera?

Birdfy describes no factory reset. Reboot with the ejector pin (then hold power 3 seconds) and double-press the power button to re-enter Wi-Fi configuration mode.

Why are my Birdfy Moment videos not loading?

Usually a slow or unstable upload. Restart camera and router, move the camera closer to the router or test with a hotspot.
